Home Composting

To reduce our kitchen waste we installed two backyard composters. We put almost all food and yard waste in these. The only exception is meat and bones. We throw in egg shells, mouldy bread, carrot peels, apple cores, leftover pureed baby food — the works.

Home Recycling Center

Remember that the recycling motto (“Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!”) is a list of best to worst options and not a set of equivalent choices. Basically reduce your waste overall (even if it’s recyclable), reuse what you can and recycle only as a last resort.

Our Home is Bullfrog Powered

One of our major changes involved signing up for Bullfrog Power’s service. This went a long way towards greening our home with one simple signup form and a few extra dollars a month. Basically, Bullfrog injects100% green and renewable electricity into the grid for every fraction of a kilowatt hour we use.
