I couldn’t really claim an environmental conscience for our family if the hosting of this blog spewed forth an hourly pile of carbon, especially when no one was visiting. As a result we scouted around for a web host that at minimum offset their emissions with gold standard offsets.

In our research we came across DreamHost:

DreamHost has calculated their entire carbon footprint, meaning everything that they use and leave behind in the course of their daily work (all resources they use including electricity for 1300+ servers, office paper and the gas in their cars from their employees daily commute). They’ve purchased Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) certified by Green-e and carbon credits certified by The Gold Standard. These credits come directly from reductions that meet standards established by the Kyoto Protocol and offset emissions from projects that would otherwise not exist.

We also use the same account to host Tanya’s business blog: tanyastamps.com. Overall we’ve been very happy with Dreamhost and if you’re in the market for a new provider, check them out.
